Bend Wild has had a sneaker crush on Firestone Walker beers since we first tried them several years ago when one of our good friends smuggled them back for us from California.  Since then, we’ve been fortunate enough to have their famous pale ale distributed into Bend under the super secret disguise of  Trader Joes’ Mission Street Pale Ale, and now Whole Foods on the East Side of Bend has brought the entire Firestone Walker lineup to our local community.   Kudos to the extraordinary efforts made by our good friends Jason and Evan who have been working hard to ensure that Whole Foods always has a great selection of beers, and with the addition of Firestone Walker Ales, now has the undisputed best  beer selection on any shelves in Central Oregon.

Nose/Appearance: A sunny, clear, golden-hued ale that pours with a fine, well-constructed head.  The aggressive citrus and pine hop aromas muscle their way to the forefront and define this classic West-Coast-style IPA.

Flavor/Body: Big and hoppy, yet balanced.   This beer cleverly disguises it’s 7.5% ABV behind a malt body that is so perfectly balanced that one 22-ounce bottle doesn’t quite seem like enough.

Finish/Mouthfeel: The body and flavor are handsomely echoed by the crisp clean finish of this balanced IPA.

Overall Drinkability: Ten, and then some.  Hoppy and approachable in a way that makes this beer a must-have for any west coast IPA lover.

Celebrity Likeness: Firestone Walker’s Union Jack IPA is attractive, approachable, and personable; it’s MONEY, just like Heather Graham in one of Bend Wild’s favorite movies, Swingers.
